چکیده

We suggest a method of fitting of a zero-range model of a tectonic plate under a boundary stress on the basis of comparison of the theoretical formulae for the corresponding eigenfunctions/eigenvalues with the results extraction under monitoring, in the remote zone, of non-random (regular) oscillations of the Earth with periods 0.2-6 hours, on the background seismic process, in case of low seismic activity. Observations of changes of the characteristics of the oscillations (frequency, amplitude and polarization) in course of time, together with the theoretical analysis of the fitted model, would enable us to localize the stressed zone on the boundary of the plate and estimate the risk of a powerful earthquake at the zone. The lithosphere of Earth consists of 14 tectonic plates which jigsaw fit each other. The plates are isolated from underlying solid structures within the Earth mantle by the low-viscosity layer of the asthenosphere which is formed, due to various conditions, including high pressure and temperature, in the interval of depth 100 -200 km. The plates move on the surface of Earth, due to convective flows and variations of the angular speed of Earth, gliding on the low-viscosity layer of asthenosphere and interacting with each other at some active boundary zones, see below. The problem of fitting of the zero-range model of the tectonic plate under a localized boundary stress

We suggest a method of fitting of the zero-range model of the tectonic plate under the boundary stress based on comparison of the theoretical formulae for the corresponding eigenfunctions/eigenvalues with the results of instrumental measurements of frequency and the shape and the shape of the relevant seismo-gravitational modes in the remoted zone. Comparison of the data of the instrumental mea...

EFFECT OF BOUNDARY CONDITIONS ON LOCALIZED INSTABILITY OF THE SEMI-INFINITE ORTHOTROPIC PLATE

This paper is concerned with an investigation into the localized instability of a thin elastic orthotropic semi-infinite plate. In this study, a semi-infinite plate, simply supported on two edges and under different boundary conditions of clamped, hinged, sliding contact and free on the other edge, is studied. A mathematical model is used and a general solution is presented. The conditions unde...

On Interaction of T S Waves and 3 D Localized Disturbance in a Divergent Flow Under Zero Pressure Gradient

To simulate the effect of free st ream turbulence on turbulent spot formation, experiments were conducted on the interaction of localized three-dimensional disturbances with the harmonic waves in a laminar boundary layer on a flat plate. Experiments conducted in three-dimensional diverging flow (but zero pressure gradient) show, while individually the disturbances decay downstream, their intera...

A new paradigm for large earthquakes in stable continental plate interiors

Large earthquakes within stable continental regions (SCR) show that significant amounts of elastic strain can be released on geological structures far from plate boundary faults, where the vast majority of the Earth’s seismic activity takes place. SCR earthquakes show spatial and temporal patterns that differ from those at plate boundaries and occur in regions where tectonic loading rates are n...

Finite Plate with Circular and Square Hole under Partial Loading

In this paper a general analytical solution is obtained to find stress distribution in a finite elastic plate with a circular or square hole subjected to arbitrary biaxial partial loading using modified boundary condition by assuming plane stress conditions. The method employed is based on solution of circular hole in finite rectangular plate. This plate is mapped to circular ones and the parti...
